I grew up in Melbourne watching AFL with my dad, who was an Essendon supporter, for better or worse. When I was 22, a few mates and I started a footy tipping competition which developed into a small betting group. Unfortunately, we were terrible at it. That failure got me interested in the why behind it all, and I started tracking every bet in a spreadsheet.

Open a real account

As part of the review, I will open up a real account with each gambling company covered here. I note how long the KYC process takes and whether it is straightforward.

PayID and card are the methods most Australians use. I note whether the minimum deposit matches what the site advertises.

Check the bonus terms before claiming

I will read the full bonus terms and wagering requirements to determine the real cost to the player. For example, what will a wagering requirement of 40x cost a player who deposits $50?

I time how long it takes from the request to money in my account. This is when most gambling companies either prove or lose their credibility.

Write it up honestly

I write up a review of each site using what I found across those steps. Any weaknesses get mentioned. It does not matter how much the company pays in affiliate commission - if the withdrawal takes a long time, that is what I will say.
